Heath Tarbert, chairman of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), again expressed confidence that there would be Ethereum futures on the market.
"We have seen bitcoin futures, both cash-settled as well as physically-delivered. My guess is we are going to see ether futures as well," said Tarbert in an interview with Bloomberg.
In addition, the CFTC chairman emphasized that he wants to see the US leadership in the development of blockchain-based technologies and solutions, as well as digital asset trading.
"I want to encourage innovation and it's interesting because commodities are what we regulate, particularly derivatives on commodities,"
he added.
Tarbert also noted that Bitcoin and Ethereum are commodities, which means they fall under the regulation of CFTC. At the same time, he previously admitted that he was not sure whether XRP is a commodity or a security.
Recall that for the first time Tarbert expressed his opinion about the futures on Ethereum back in the fall of last year. Then he said that such derivatives should appear in 2020.
