Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin called for the development of a "right" decentralized exchange for exchanging Ethereum for Bitcoin and gateways for other cryptocurrencies.
In his opinion, the fact that the two largest cryptocurrency ecosystems do not have a direct way to exchange their coins is quite "discouraging".
"We should put resources toward a proper (trustless, serverless, maximally Uniswap-like UX) ETH <-> BTC decentralized exchange. It's embarrassing that we still can't easily move between the two largest crypto ecosystems trustlessly,"
Buterin wrote on Twitter.

Buterin also encouraged developers to create decentralized gateways between Ethereum and other cryptocurrency ecosystems. He said that he had already talked about this with Zooko Wilcox, the creator of the anonymous cryptocurrency ZCash, and would like these plans to become a reality.
Note that it is decentralized exchanges that correspond to the spirit of cryptocurrencies - users do not need to trust their funds to third-party platforms, all operations are carried out directly between users. However, such sites cannot boast of a large number of users. So, recently DEX-exchange Sparkswap announced its closure due to the small number of users.
